Fire gutted SMPN 200, Jalan Rorotan Simpang 3, RW 11, Rorotan Urban Village, Cilincing Sub-District, North Jakarta. Two classrooms, one science lab, one store and one canteen were burned down on Saturday (5/3).

The incident occurred around 05:30 PM which allegedly originated from an electricity short-circuit. To extinguish the fire, 10 fire trucks were deployed to the scene, and at 05:55 PM, the fire was mastered. Although there were no casualties, the losses suffered by the school reached Rp 300 million.
Afif (31), a resident of RT 01/11, Rorotan Urban Village, admitted that the fire flared just before Maghrib. He and other residents tried to extinguish the fire with modest equipment. However, this effort did not succeed.

Meanwhile, North Jakarta Fire Department and Disaster Management officer, Latif Ahmad, admitted that he received a report around 05:30 PM. Luckily, because yesterday was weekend, the streets were not jammed so that the officers could arrive at the scene quickly.
"The fire rapidly enlarged because there is a science lab. We suspect that many flammable liquid has caused the fire enlarges rapidly," he explained.
Regarding to the cause of the fire, Ahmad suspected a short circuit from a cable outside the school store. Moreover, the store was full of used benches and chairs made of wood scrap, which is a combustible material.
"We estimate the loss is near Rp 300 million. No injuries or fatalities," Ahmad stated.
